Lead Estimator (Hybrid)

ASAP is hiring on behalf of our client for an experienced Lead Estimator to support large-scale energy, power grid, and utility capital projects. This is a full-time contract-to-hire opportunity offering a hybrid work schedule based out of our client's Houston, TX office.

This position offers the opportunity to lead estimating efforts on high-profile capital projects from early project development through execution while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering and project delivery teams.

Position Summary:
The Lead Estimator will be responsible for preparing and reviewing capital cost estimates throughout all phases of project development, developing estimating methodologies, validating estimates, and supporting project teams with accurate cost forecasting. This individual will play a key role in improving estimating standards, mentoring team members, and ensuring high-quality cost estimates for complex capital projects.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience supporting industrial, energy, utility, or EPC projects and possess hands-on experience using Aspen Capital Cost Estimator (ACCE) software.

Please Note: The hiring manager is specifically seeking experience with Aspen Capital Cost Estimator (ACCE), which is a software-based capital cost estimating application and is not associated with AACE International.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop capital cost estimates throughout all project phases (AACE Class 5 through Class 1).
  • Prepare comprehensive Estimate Plans and Basis of Estimate (BOE) documentation.
  • Develop detailed material quantity takeoffs.
  • Utilize Aspen Capital Cost Estimator (ACCE) to prepare and maintain project cost estimates.
  • Review, validate, and provide technical feedback on estimates prepared by others.
  • Maintain and enhance estimating databases, historical cost information, and benchmarking models.
  • Identify estimating risks and recommend practical solutions to improve project outcomes.
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of estimating standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Perform complex estimating assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Lead large-scale capital estimating efforts across multiple projects.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, construction, project controls, and client stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior estimators and support continuous process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or a related field, or 15 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Alternatively, 10+ years of direct experience in a professional estimating environment.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with Aspen Capital Cost Estimator (ACCE) software.
  • Experience developing capital cost estimates from conceptual through detailed design.
  • Strong knowledge of Basis of Estimate (BOE) development, estimate validation, benchmarking, and cost analysis.
  • Experience developing material takeoffs and supporting large capital projects.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimating assignments in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting Energy, Power Grid, or Utility capital projects.
  • Experience in EPC, industrial, petrochemical, refinery, LNG, chemical, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Certification through AACE, PMI, or CMAA is preferred.
  • Experience leading estimating teams and implementing estimating best practices.
